European Escapades

En Genève

FINALLY we got here. It was a long but beautiful journey. We got the chance to lay over in Ireland, which was amazing and green, and so beautiful. I've never really flown at night before, but when we landed in Dublin, at 5 am, I understood the appeal. It was roughly 3 am (Dublin time). I wished I was a painter. In my delerious sleep-deprived haze I felt somewhat poetic so bear with me. We seemed so close to the universe. There were clouds below us that were a milky white that expanded into the distance, blurring and fading into pale blue that then abruptly met the solemness of the black universe which was speckled with stars and just out of my arms reach was the Big Dipper. It was a surreal moment. Then as we started to descend the lights that seemed to be patterned around Dublin greeted us. The pattern was intricately woven into the landscape. It was beautiful to look at. Then we landed and waited an hour in the Dublin Airport which was very, very green. From here, we went on our final leg into Geneva. It was absolutely unreal. We couldn't believe we were actually on our way, but we were. The Alps proved it to us as we made our descent. Once we arrived, we found our bags and exchanged some currency. We then managed to load about 8 huge bags and about 234598237405987 pounds worth of stuff into the back of a very nice Audi cab and headed off to the Smith Center. Which is beautiful. It's an old building that's full of private apartments of which Smith has possession of one. It is absolutely beautiful. We were greeted by our program directors and shown around the wonderfully European interior. We were given croissants (filled with chocolate) and "jus d'orange, d'eau et du café". We were given small info packets and then sent on our merry way to our dorms. Mine is very modern and white. Did I mention that my view is of the BEAUTIFUL Rhône river? It is. It's amazing. With a little bit of elbow grease, my roommate and I may be able to make this place a bit more homey.

Until later,

I miss you all. xoxo
