Fondue Dinner

02/28/2014 22:02

After arriving back from London and fighting my way through a few finals (the oral one I won't even get into seeing as my director opted not to count the grade since it was absurd and resulted a bout of hysteria in the middle of le Parc de Bastion), we all got together for one more nice group outing. Mme Rochat and Mme Piron took us to a restaurant that was attached to one of the hotels in Old Town, one who is renown for its' fondue and raclette.

We got to drink Swiss wine that comes from the mountain regions, and we all ate tons of bread. ANd then we ordered. I shared raclette with some friends, and others got fondue. We all just ended up sharing. We learned the proper way to eat it... dip the bread all the way in and swirl it around the pot 5 times. If your bread falls in, you get mocked! This stems from a tradition of actual punishment if you dropped your bread in the cheese.

It was DELICIOUS. We all just enjoyed each others company (and all got a tad bit tipsy). It was a really really nice night. We presented Mme Rochat and Piron with their gifts. Madame was given a scrap book we had all written in, and Mme Piron was given a photo around which there was a white border which we'd all signed. They were so thankful, as were we for such an incredible semester.

For dessert we got this pear ice cream with a mint leaf literally DROWNED in rum. Apparently it's a delicacy. But it was ridiculously strong, and we could barely handle it (dumb AMericans). Needless to say we were all feeling pretty good as we headed back to the Smith Center to stay up until 3 am studying.

This was such a crazy, amazing, supportive, hilarious bunch of people that I will be ever thankful for having the opportunity to have met.

All of my love.
